These terms cover your use of vancouvertourism.org. Reading the site means accepting them. They are written to be read, not to be impenetrable.
What this site is
Vancouver Tourism Guide publishes free travel guides about Vancouver and the surrounding region. It sells nothing, books nothing and takes no payment from readers. It is independent of Destination Vancouver, Tourism BC, the City of Vancouver, TransLink, BC Parks and every business described in these guides.
Accuracy, and why you should still check
We research these guides carefully and correct them when we learn they are wrong. But travel information decays, and Vancouver gives it plenty of ways to do so.
Fares change. Compass Card zone rules and the Canada Line AddFare are set by TransLink, not by us. Cypress, Grouse and Mount Seymour open and close according to snow, and a published season date is a forecast. Seasonal shuttles stop running. Festival dates move. Cruise sailings from Canada Place shift with the season. Restaurants close, sometimes between our checking and your reading. Trails close for washouts and bear activity; BC Parks and Metro Vancouver Regional Parks make those calls at short notice.
So: everything here is provided for general information, without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the content is accurate, complete or current. Before you rely on a detail that would cost you money or time — a price, an opening hour, a ferry departure, a border rule — confirm it with the operator or authority responsible. Where we can, we link straight to them for exactly that reason.
Your own safety and judgement
Some of what these guides describe carries real risk. Hiking the Grouse Grind or the North Shore trails, snowshoeing, backcountry skiing, swimming at the beaches, cycling in city traffic, kayaking in the harbour — these depend on your fitness, your equipment, the weather and conditions on the day, none of which we can see from here.
You are responsible for your own decisions. Check the forecast, check avalanche and trail advisories, tell someone where you are going, and turn back when it is sensible to. Nothing in these guides is a substitute for local advice, official warnings or your own judgement, and describing a route does not mean it is safe for you on the day you attempt it.
Similarly, nothing here is legal, immigration, medical or financial advice. Entry requirements for Canada, and for the United States if you cross to Seattle, are matters for IRCC, the CBSA and US Customs and Border Protection.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Vancouver Tourism Guide is not liable for any loss, injury, cost or damage arising from your use of this site or from reliance on anything published on it — including missed connections, closed attractions, incorrect prices, cancelled bookings, or the acts and omissions of any third party described here. Your remedy, if the site does not serve you, is to stop using it.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
Third-party businesses and links
Mentioning a hotel, restaurant, tour operator or attraction is not an endorsement or a guarantee of quality, and it creates no relationship between us and them. Any transaction you enter into is entirely between you and that business. We do not vet operators, hold their bookings, or have any way to intervene if something goes wrong.
We link out to other websites for reference. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, their accuracy or their privacy practices.
Copyright and reuse
The written guides on this site are original work and are protected by copyright. Photographs are licensed from Pexels under the Pexels licence and remain the work of the photographers credited.
You may quote a short passage — a couple of sentences — with clear attribution and a working link to the page you took it from. You may not republish a guide in whole or in substantial part, whether on a website, in an app, in print or in a newsletter, and you may not present this material as your own.
Scraping this site to train a model, populate another travel site, or generate derivative guides is not permitted. If you want to use something and are not sure whether it falls inside the quotation allowance, ask through the contact page — we usually say yes to reasonable requests, and we would rather be asked.
Acceptable use
Do not attempt to disrupt the site, gain unauthorised access to it, or use automated tools that place an unreasonable load on the server. Do not use the contact form to send spam, marketing, link-building requests or anything unlawful.
Advertising
This site does not currently display advertising. We intend to introduce third-party display advertising to fund it. When we do, adverts will be clearly distinguishable from editorial content, and their presence will not influence any recommendation, ranking or review. Advertising cookies and your choices about them are covered in the privacy policy.
Privacy
How we handle your data is set out in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.
Availability
We make no promise that the site will be available uninterrupted. It may be unavailable for maintenance, host issues or reasons outside our control, and guides may be revised, replaced or withdrawn at any time without notice.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated; the date at the top shows when they last were. Continuing to use the site after a change means accepting the revised version.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the laws of Canada applicable there, and the courts of British Columbia have jurisdiction — save that if you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country where you live.
